Police Department

The San Angelo Police Department has enjoyed a long history, dating back to the turn of the century. In 1947, the City of San Angelo elected to assume civil service status for its police department. This status still stands today. The Office of the Chief of Police is an elected position whose term is four years. Our current police chief is Frank Carter. He was elected in a May 2016. The San Angelo Police Department currently has 175 sworn officers.

Fire Department

The Fire Department's mission is to provide the community the highest level of life safety and property conservation through the extension of training, fire prevention, emergency medical services, fire suppression and emergency management.The SAFD employs 163 classified firefighters/EMS personnel that operate out of eight fire stations.

Fire Prevention 

The mission of the Fire Prevention Division is to protect life and property from the threat of fire and explosion.

These tasks are accomplished through education, inspections and investigations. An investigator is always on call, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to handle investigations. Some of the types of investigations that may be conducted are:

  • Fire death and injury investigations.
  • Fire and arson investigations in which structure fires are investigated to determine origin and cause.
  • Bomb threats.

Office of Emergency Management 

Emergency Management focuses on several key areas to help our city and county be prepared for any disaster. These include development of a disaster plan with an "all-hazards" approach, training of all personnel who would be called upon to respond to a disaster, and public education and awareness.

Public Safety Communications

Public Safety Communications is the initial answering point of all 911 calls for the City of San Angelo and Tom Green County. The mission of Public Safety Communications is to provide excellence in service in the area of police and fire department communications. PSC achieves this by employing highly motivated personnel, providing excellent training, and utilizing the latest equipment to provide a great service to the public, the firefighters and the police officers we serve.
