Bell Street Reconstruction Project

DSC09152-12

Speed limits on Bell Street have been reduced to 25 mph in construction zones to ensure workers’ and motorists’ safety as the roadway is being rebuilt.

The contractor on the $22 million reconstruction of Bell Street is Reece Albert of San Angelo. The work began in July of 2018 and is estimated to be completed in late 2021.

The project involves removing, replacing and relocating water and sewer lines at a cost of approximately $12 million. The remaining $10 million will be spent rebuilding the roadway from the base up. Its new driving surface will be concrete, which is more durable and requires less maintenance and fewer repairs than asphalt.

Bell Street Road Closures and Detours

Underground utilities on Bell Street are being installed before pavement construction can proceed. This work requires portions of Bell Street to be fully closed. Vehicles will be detoured onto side streets around the work areas, which may stretch as far as three blocks long.

The work will be ongoing for the next several months.
