Fort Concho hires new education coordinator

Post Date:08/22/2019 2:03 PM

Sarah Ross has been hired as the new education coordinator for Fort Concho effective Aug. 16. A graduate of Angelo State University with a degree in history, Sarah served as both an intern and long-time volunteer at the fort for the past few years.

A native of Orange Grove, Texas, Sarah will be managing the fort’s education programs such as Frontier School, the fort’s oldest, continuous program dating to 1976. She will also be taking a major role in the fort’s many living history programs, various special events, and the fort’s daily interpretation for school groups and guests.

When speaking about Fort Concho, Sarah had this to say, “Fort Concho means a good deal to me. While interning at the fort I got the opportunity to learn about this place and why it is significant to San Angelo. Though I am not originally from San Angelo, I feel this place is my home.”

Site manager Bob Bluthardt said Sarah’s enthusiasm for history, her past hands-on experiences with Fort Concho activities, and her passion for engaging youth made her the best choice for the position. “We look forward to her work at this site, in the community, and with programs we support at other frontier

forts and communities in West Texas.”
