Safety tips

           Proper Attire

  • Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing.
  • Volunteers should wear gloves to protect hands from sharp objects. Leather work gloves are suggested. This will protect against the sun and any poisonous plants or insects you may encounter.
  • Only wear closed-toe-shoes if you plan on being in areas with tall grass or brush. Leather shoes or boots are recommended.
  • Wear light-colored clothing and long pants or jeans. Wear a hat and long sleeves to avoid sunburn.

    Health Concerns

  • Do NOT pick up anything that could be hazardous to your health. This includes needles, syringes, jagged glass, animal carcasses, urine bottles, or extremely heavy objects. If in doubt, flag the item and ask an organizer later.
  • It is recommended that you have some type of first aid kit nearby. If you find yourself in need of immediate medical attention and do not hesitate to call 911.
  • Sunscreen and insect repellent are good to keep on hand.
  • Avoid overexertion. Drink plenty of water. Water will be made available at one of the two meeting spots.
  • As the season temperatures are changing there is a possibility of encountering snakes. Avoid any snakes that you may come in contact with. The possible species you could encounter are broad ranging, but most common would be rattlesnakes, cottonmouth, bull snakes, & coachwhips.
  • There will be moving vehicles, ATV’s, UTV’s, boats, and the normal traffic that could be seen on any given Saturday, so it is imperative that everyone be aware of their surroundings and use best safety practices this weekend.
