The Recreation Division manages facilities such as the City's two recreation centers, Love Municipal Pool, the San Angelo Nature Center and the Texas Bank Sports Complex. Additionally, Recreation is responsible for a host of programming, including senior services, athletics, an aquatic program, summer day camps and special events such as the annual Date Night.

Movies in the Park

All movies will be shown free to the public! The movies, each of which is family-friendly, will start at sundown. Movies will all be shown at Kirby Park, 1400 Edmund Blvd. For more information, call 325-657-4450.

Monsters Incorporated is the largest scare factory in the monster world, and James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) is one of its top scarers. Sullivan is a huge, intimidating monster with blue fur, large purple spots and horns. His scare assistant, best friend and roommate is Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), a green, opinionated, feisty little one-eyed monster. Visiting from the human world is Boo (Mary Gibbs), a tiny girl who goes where no human has ever gone before.

Recreation continues its free Movie in the Park series on Saturday, Oct. 22, with a showing of Disney Pixar “Monsters, Inc.” The movie starts at sundown at Kirby Park, 1400 Edmund Blvd. Families are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs and refreshments. Glass containers are not allowed in City parks and pets must be leashed. Kona Ice and Semper Fresh Kettle Corn will also be on hand selling their goodies.

Nature Center Frightfest


Frightfest begins with a sleepover at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28. Kids can safely sleepover at the Nature Center during this Halloween-themed event. Kids bring sleeping bags and pillows, and spend the evening doing crafts, handling animals and watching animal-themed movies. Two snacks and a light breakfast will be served. Limited spots are available, so sign up now!

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, families can come to the Nature Center and enjoy game booths, face-painting, spooky stories and much more!

Turkey Shoot Free Throw Contest

This competition is for age divisions 4-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13-15, 16 and older. Each competitor will shoot 5 free throws. The most accurate shooter in each division wins a turkey! Younger age divisions shoot from closer distances with junior-size balls.

Date Night 2017- A Knight's Tale in the Enchanted Forest

Date Night is a wonderful opportunity for parents to spend quality time with their children as well as strengthen their relationships. Date Night will be held February 13, 14, 15, and 16 2017. Tickets will go on sale December 1, 2016!

Family Night Camp Out and Movie


The Recreation Division is hosting its first Family Night in the Park! Families are invited to camp out under the stars and enjoy an evening full of nighttime fun with burgers, s'mores and other camp traditions. After setting up camp, play a game of your choice before dinner. Then join us for a movie starting at dusk!
