Fort Concho scares up good times

Post Date:10/16/2017

Fort Concho will host a pair of Halloween-themed events this week and next.

The fort’s annual murder mystery event, Murder at Fort Concho, will be 7 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 19-20. Tickets are $8 for Fort Concho members and $10 for general admission.

The year is 1881, and Capt. C.A. Daver has been found dead at Fort Concho. Miss Teri Salva, the judge advocate’s assistant, has been sent to the fort to solve the mystery. During her preliminary investigation, Salva narrows the list of suspects to six. Each night, guests will interview the suspects and search for clues to help solve the crime.

Tickets are available in the Visitors Center at Barracks 1, 630 S. Oakes St. They can also be purchased at the door before 9 p.m. each night of the event. Guests will receive an introduction in Barracks 1 and be sent out to begin their investigations every 15 minutes.

The event is family-friendly. Participants should be prepared to walk. Guests are encouraged to bring flashlights.

Fort Concho’s annual night tour on Tuesday, Oct. 24, gives visitors a chance to experience the National Historic Site in a new light. The tour will show the fort and some of its interiors in the evening darkness. Guides will share stories about the post and note some of the soldiers and civilians who died at Fort Concho.

The tour begins at 8 p.m. and concludes by 10:30 p.m. Space is limited. Tickets can be purchased in the Visitors Center in Barrack 1. The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for military members, seniors, children and Fort Concho members.

For more information about either event, call 325-657-4444.
