Health Department gets new medical director

Nurses will begin seeing patients again

Post Date:07/03/2017 7:48 AM

The San Angelo-Tom Green County Health Department will resume immunizations and tuberculosis testing on Tuesday, July 11, following the appointment of Dr. James Vretis as the local health authority.

Vretis replaces Dr. Stephen Seifert, who died unexpectedly June 26 after having served as the department’s medical director for more than 15 years. Without medical oversight, which is required by law, the department’s nurses lacked the authority to administer shots, test and treat for sexually transmitted diseases, and administer other communicable disease control measures.

The Health Department is again scheduling patients for STD clinics.

The Health Department is in Suite 8 at 2030 Pulliam St. It is open 8 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. It will be closed Tuesday for the July Fourth holiday.
