AEP update on restoration of electric service

Post Date:06/25/2017 7:49 AM

AEP Texas update on restoration efforts in the San Angelo area:

As of 9 a.m. Sunday, approximately 700 customers in San Angelo and surrounding areas remained without power. This means that power has been restored to over 95 percent of the 15,500 customers who lost service during the Friday evening storm.

As the storm restoration efforts enters its final phases, crews will continue their activities until electric service has been restored to all customers. Over 100 AEP employees and contractors have been involved in the service restoration effort, including crews from Abilene, Del Rio and Laredo. These crews have made steady progress following the storm, which contributed to reaching the 95 percent restoration level well in advance of the earlier projected time of 10 p.m. Sunday night.

The crews continue to repair or replace utility poles or transmission structures knocked down by wind gusts estimated at over 80 miles per hour while making other repairs needed to restore power. On Saturday morning, they began addressing over 100 separate outage issues in the San Angelo area, which needed to be addressed individually to restore power to small groups of customers. Consequently, the crews must focus on activities that restore service to individual customers or small groups of customers on a case-by-case basis.

“We have entered the phase of the restoration effort where progress tends to slow down due to the individual nature of the remaining outages,” said Fred Hernandez, AEP Texas External Affairs manager. “If your power has not been restored by noon today, please call our Customer Solutions Center at 866 233-8508 to reconfirm that we are aware that you are still without power.”

Residents can track progress on the restoration effort by visiting the outage area at There is a real-time map featuring the most current available information. Customers also can sign up for outage alerts to receive updates on outages.
